First Silver Quarter of the 2015!

2015 is turning out to be a good year for finding silver for me.  I found my first silver quarter this year and it was a surprise find for me.  I was scanning an area of an old park where it looked like a structure once stood.  I started picking up clad quarters at 4 – 5″ ringing up as 11-47.  Which is kinda unusual since clad quarters usually ring up primarily for me as 12-46.   I came across another 11-47 signal thinking it was another clad quarter and it ended up being a silver 1937 Merc at 4-5″ standing on edge vertically.  I pulled nails out of the hole first and found the Merc off the edge of my plug.   So I slowed down and started gridding the area.  My next interesting signal could be described as a goofy wheat penny signal, but didn’t really sound right.  I don’t remember the numbers, but I remember thinking I wanted to see the date of the wheat.  My pinpointer starting signaling everywhere in the hole, not good I thought.  After removing three or so rusty nails, my pinpointer started going off on the edge of my plug.  As I removed more dirt a 1959D silver quarter fell out.  It was standing vertically on edge too!  I can only assume the silver quarter was affected by the iron nails, but ringing up as a goofy wheat penny surprised me.  So two silvers coins I found and I didn’t know they were going to be silver.  Still I like good surprises 🙂

I’m considering going back and digging every non iron signal.  It wasn’t too trashy with non iron signals and I might find a ring.   The coins I found there ranged from the 1930’s to 1970’s.  Whatever was there had been there a while.  I guess I will just have to see and I’ll let you know.  Good luck.
